CELPIP Speaking Task 1: Giving Advice Framework

Filled Example

Scenario: Your friend is considering whether to buy a car or continue using public transit in Toronto.

"Hi Sarah, I understand you're trying to decide between buying a car and sticking with public transit. Based on my experience living in Toronto, I'd strongly recommend that you continue using the TTC and maybe supplement it with occasional car sharing.

First, the financial savings will be enormous - you'll avoid insurance, parking fees, and maintenance costs that easily add up to over $500 monthly. This will help you save for that condo down payment you mentioned. Additionally, Toronto's public transit system has really improved, especially with the new subway extensions. For example, I used to drive downtown for work, but now I take the subway and actually arrive faster while reading or relaxing. This approach has worked well because you avoid the stress of traffic and parking hassles completely.

So in summary, I believe sticking with public transit would be your best option. I'm confident this will keep your budget healthy and reduce your daily stress, and I think you'll be really pleased with how much time and money you save."
