CELPIP Speaking Task 4: Making Predictions Framework

Template Structure

This is a 60-second speaking task. Use flexible timing ranges:

Opening (8-12 seconds):

"Based on [CURRENT SITUATION/TREND], I predict that [SPECIFIC PREDICTION]. This outcome seems [CONFIDENCE LEVEL] because..."

Development (38-44 seconds):

"The main factor supporting this prediction is [PRIMARY REASON with specific example]. Furthermore, [SECONDARY REASON with detail]. We can already see signs of this in [CURRENT EVIDENCE]."

Conclusion (8-12 seconds):

"Considering these factors, I'm [CONFIDENCE LEVEL] that [RESTATE PREDICTION]. This change will likely [IMPACT STATEMENT]."

Filled Example

Opening (10 seconds):

"Based on the increasing popularity of remote work in Canada, I predict that downtown office spaces will significantly decrease over the next five years. This outcome seems highly likely because..."

Development (42 seconds):

"The main factor supporting this prediction is that many Canadian companies have adopted permanent work-from-home policies, reducing their need for large office buildings. Furthermore, employees are prioritizing work-life balance and moving to smaller cities where housing is more affordable. We can already see signs of this in Toronto and Vancouver, where several major corporations have downsized their office footprints and some buildings are being converted to residential units."

Conclusion (8 seconds):

"Considering these factors, I'm confident that urban office demand will continue declining. This change will likely reshape city centers across Canada."

• Use rising intonation for building arguments - Keep your voice engaged during development, then drop to conclusive tone in your final statement
