CELPIP Speaking Task 6: Difficult Situation Framework

Template Structure

Opening (10-15 seconds):

"[ACKNOWLEDGE THE DIFFICULTY]. Given the circumstances, I would [MAIN SOLUTION/APPROACH]. This seems like the most [QUALIFIER] option because [BRIEF REASON]."

Development (40-50 seconds):

"My primary reason is that [DETAILED REASON 1 WITH CONSEQUENCES]. Furthermore, [DETAILED REASON 2 WITH BENEFITS]. While some people might consider [ALTERNATIVE APPROACH], I believe my suggestion is better because [COMPARISON/JUSTIFICATION]."

Conclusion (10-15 seconds):

"In summary, [RESTATE MAIN SOLUTION]. I'm confident this approach would [EXPECTED OUTCOME]."

Filled Example

Opening (12 seconds):

"This is definitely a challenging workplace situation. Given the circumstances, I would speak directly with my supervisor about the unfair workload distribution. This seems like the most professional option because it addresses the root cause."

Development (47 seconds):

"My primary reason is that open communication with management often leads to concrete solutions, and avoiding the issue will only make my stress and resentment grow worse over time. Furthermore, documenting my concerns officially protects both me and the company from potential conflicts down the road. While some people might consider just accepting the situation quietly, I believe my suggestion is better because staying silent enables unfair treatment to continue and could harm team morale."

Conclusion (11 seconds):

"In summary, I would have an honest conversation with my supervisor about workload balance. I'm confident this approach would lead to a fairer work environment for everyone."
