Frequently asked questions

A CELPIP-General score of 9 in a skill equals CLB 9. CELPIP-General maps one-to-one to the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) for each ability — Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking — from level 4 up to level 10.
Yes. CELPIP 10 equals CLB 10. CLB 10 is the highest level used in Express Entry, so CELPIP 10, 11 and 12 all count as CLB 10 and earn the same number of CRS points.
CELPIP 9 = CLB 9. For your first official language, CLB 9 earns 31 CRS points per ability without a spouse (29 with a spouse). Across all four abilities that is 124 points without a spouse, or 116 with a spouse.
Most Express Entry candidates aim for CLB 9 (CELPIP 9) in every skill, because that is where the language CRS points peak. The Federal Skilled Worker Program requires a minimum of CLB 7 (CELPIP 7) in all four abilities to be eligible.
No. It calculates only your first official language points — the part of the CRS score that depends on your CELPIP results. Your full CRS score also includes age, education, work experience, skill-transferability bonuses and any French-language or provincial-nomination points. Use the official IRCC CRS tool for your complete score.
